This morning, while putting seed out for the birds prior to going to work, I enjoyed the first serenade of the spring: "Peent!". Several American Woodcock had arrived during the night and were now actively calling and twittering in the field just out back of the house. Chorus Frogs were also trilling away in the wet puddles just a few feet away.
This evening, just after sunset, I put on the shoes and stepped out the back door. The skies were clear, and I was able to see one bird fly by while another 6 American Woodcock were peenting and twittering under the power lines. One bird belted out its song just 10 feet away. I spent 20 minutes just enjoying the sweet sounds of spring. Time to open the windows.
